Cobb Access Port
From SubiWiki
The Cobb AccessPORT allows you the ability to upload preprogrammed maps to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) via the diagnosis port located below your steering wheel. This device is plug and play and is not permanently attached to your vehicle. This device allows you to switch maps without removing the ECU. Maps come preloaded on the AccessPort but are also available for download.
The AccessPort also allows you to check and clear check engine lights. Live Boost pressure readings are also available for display on the AccessPort through the Ecu's reading.
The stock ECU can only be reprogrammed approximately 100 times. The AccessPort has a special program that circumvents the ECU re-write limit to allow unlimited map switching ability. Currently 11 maps are available for download.

Stage 1
Stage 1 allows for for a stock vehicle to attain modest gains. No modifications are necessary to use Stage 1 maps. This map is in three different variants to allow for different types of fuel.
Stage 2
Stage 2 requires at minimum, the downpipe section of the exhaust to be removed. Cobb recommend that the entire turbo back exhaust including the pre-turbo uppipe section be exchanged for after market parts to receive the entire benefit of Stage 2.
Special Maps
A stock map is provided to run the car in a mode that mirrors the stock programming of an unflashed stock ECU. Two anti-theft maps will either not allow the engine to start, or allow it to only idle. A valet map will set the rev limiter to an extremely low number to let the car stay drivable, yet keep it from being used in a sporty fashion.
